Background Context

I am writing as a concerned constituent to urge stronger European action in response to Iran’s ongoing repression and the growing pattern of transnational intimidation and threats targeting Iranian dissidents, journalists, and activists abroad. Credible reporting and multiple international human-rights mechanisms have documented severe and sustained abuses by the Islamic Republic, including lethal crackdowns, arbitrary detention, torture allegations, and executions tied to protest activity. In parallel, Iranian state-linked networks have been accused of surveilling and threatening members of the Iranian diaspora and media outlets outside Iran. I respectfully ask you to press for the following EU-level actions:

Your Demands

1. Strengthen EU designations and disruption of IRGC-linked networks Pursue the strongest available EU measures to restrict, designate, and disrupt Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) structures and proxies, including facilitators operating in Europe, consistent with EU law and evidence thresholds. Expand targeting to front entities, financiers, and procurement networks enabling repression and overseas intimidation.

2. Expand and enforce sanctions and asset freezes Use existing EU human-rights and sanctions tools to target commanders, officials, and entities tied to killings, torture, mass arrests, and executions. Prioritise enforcement (banking, travel, and asset restrictions), so Europe does not become a safe haven for regime-linked assets.

3. Counter transnational repression and protect the diaspora Push for coordinated EU guidance to member states on foreign intimidation, stalking, coercion-by-proxy, and threats against dissidents and journalists. Support resourcing for investigations and cross-border cooperation where intimidation networks span jurisdictions.

4. Humanitarian protection and safer pathways Advocate practical EU support for humanitarian protection, including accelerated protection for at-risk activists, journalists, women, minorities, and others facing persecution.

5. Sustain international pressure and accountability Back robust action at the UN and with partners to support independent investigations and accountability for serious human-rights violations.

Finally, I urge you and your colleagues to ensure EU engagement does not unintentionally legitimise ongoing repression. Please support parliamentary scrutiny, hearings, and public positions that reflect the gravity of the abuses and the documented intimidation of diaspora communities. Thank you for your attention.
